When I was in high school, I had a friend who always had a question: What is the Host ID? I had to explain how we were able to send texts, make phone calls, and go to the store. My friend didn’t know the answer. I think she just figured it out when she had her first phone call when she was in college. But I knew I had to explain it to her; she would get it wrong.
Host IDs are a concept that was popularized in the late 70’s and early 80’s by IBM. The first host ID was a long string of numbers that was attached to the phone number of the person who called the phone number. As the number was dialed, the sequence of the numbers would be printed on the host ID, which was then attached to the phone numbers of the person called. I was always astonished when I first read about the concept because it seemed so antiquated.
At the time, I didn’t agree with the concept because it seemed like a solution in search of a problem. Then I was introduced to a new technology called Host ID and immediately was drawn into the idea that Host IDs might be a solution to the problem of getting someone’s phone number off the network.
Host ID, also known as a Host ID, is a number that’s assigned to a host on a network. The host ID is part of the IP address, or the Internet address, of the host. It’s the IP address of the host that you can get to by just calling the host using the phone number on your phone. So you can use the Host ID to get a phone number and then call the host.
Host ID is really a very simple concept, but in the case of the network, it’s not very simple because there are a number of different network entities that have their own IP addresses. For instance, some ISPs have a public DNS server, which is a DNS server you can get to, and a number of different wireless providers have their own public IP addresses.
Host IDs are the IP addresses of the entities on your network, which are called “Hosts.” You can get your own public IP address, but it can be quite expensive. The Host ID system is still in its infancy, but you can easily find out who has what IP address by looking up the host ID on a website like Google. The best thing to do is contact your ISP and see what sort of public IP address is available for you to use.
You can always make your own public IP address by changing your router to run a DHCP server. I have found myself needing to change my router so that my ISP’s public IP is the same as my own. It costs about $15, but for that you can have your own public IP.
The easiest way to make your own IP address is to have your ISP run a DHCP server. If you have a DSL or cable modem, you can just change your DHCP server to point to your own IP address. If you have a wireless LAN router, you can use your wireless router as the default router.

If you’re not in a hurry to get your own IP address, you can also use your mobile phone to connect to the same ISP as your router. The phone will automatically connect using the same IP address as the ISP. If you choose this method, note that your phone might be connected to another ISP, and you will need to request a new IP address from your phone company.
