This will only work with GIMP, because when you go to your web server, you have to have the GIMP package. It also works with other gimp apps (like gimp.org), because they don’t have the compression level you select. But it’s not 100% reliable, and there’s always the chance that it will fail.
gimp-compress-level works fine as long as you have a gimp.org domain name. If you dont have a gimp.org you will have to use gimp-compress-level-for-web. But theres always the chance that you will have the gimp-compress-level-for-web not be working.
But if you dont have a gimp.org, gimp-compress-level-for-web may still be working.
The one thing that you should make sure about is that you use a real, working gimp.org domain name. You can use it for the gimp-compress-level-for-web too, but it may not work.
